1. Who we are

Nuru (“we,” “our,” or “us”) is a directory and communication platform that helps clients find vetted professionals for practical work. We do not act as an employer, agency, or payment processor.

2. What we collect

We collect the following information when you create an account:

• Your name and email address (via sign-up or Google OAuth)
• Your country of residence
• Your account role (client or professional)
• Profile information you choose to provide, such as your bio, skills, rates, city, and portfolio

For professionals who apply for verification, we additionally collect:

• A copy of your government-issued ID (NIDA or equivalent)
• A copy of your university degree or professional certification

These identity documents are stored in a private, encrypted storage bucket. They are never visible to other users of the platform and are accessible only to Nuru administrators for verification purposes.

3. What we do not do

• We do not process payments. All financial transactions are handled off-platform between users via third-party services (e.g., Sendwave, Remitly).
• We do not sell your personal data to advertisers or third parties.
• We do not display ads.
• We do not share your identity documents with any third party.

4. How we use your data

• To operate your account and provide core platform features
• To verify the identity and credentials of professionals who request verification
• To send service-related emails such as sign-in, verification, and message notifications
• To enforce our Terms of Service and protect users from fraud

5. Data storage and security

Your data is stored on Supabase infrastructure, which is hosted on AWS and subject to SOC 2 Type II compliance. Identity documents are stored in non-public storage buckets with access restricted at the database level using Row Level Security policies.

6. Your rights

You have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate data
• Request deletion of your account and associated data
• Withdraw consent for verification at any time

7. Off-platform transactions

Nuru is a directory and communication platform. Any financial transaction that occurs off-platform between a client and professional is at the sole discretion and risk of the parties involved. Nuru accepts no liability for disputes, losses, or fraud arising from off-platform transactions.

Avoid paying 100% of any job upfront. Always agree on milestones first.
